Rackpack question

I went ahead and bought a rackpack from Boyd.

I like how it packs my blind and dekes.

Then I got to thinking about all the stuff I have in the pockets of my BL 2200. Such as ground blind stakes, tp, stuttin 360, extra black sweatshirt, first aid/ survival kit, decoy stakes and calls. The little pocket on the rackpack is useless being a velcro closure and not big enough for much any way.

My question is how do guys pack the rest of your hunting stuff that you bring along?

Easy, with a fanny pack attached to the rack pack. You also need to get a couple of motorcycle elastic cargo nets to secure everything to the Rack Pack. You are going to love your Rack Pack, once you mod it. I assume it is the old one that they havent modified yet, so you may want to check out my mods I did on the Rack pack in my Review thread. Last I knew, Rackpacks are still not unavailable in the modified version. I don't know for a fact that they are modifying them from previous models, but I heard they are, and they needed to.

Its an old style and I did put the bigger feet on it. I had the the bungy nets, used them with my BL 2200.

With all four of my dekes on the rackpack I see no room for a Fanny pack. That doesn't look like your turkey setup HCH. Am I wrong?

I emailed Mike Sohm and he said he didn't know what and if they were cahnging anything. But I think they are just not releasing any info yet.

yea, it is my setup, without the dekes on so you can see the predator green fanny pack. I attach the buckle on the opposite side here.

I think I will just break out the old turkey vest unless someone has a better idea.

I dont have a large enough fanny pack.

Just talked with my contact at Magnus and they are redesigning the Rack Pack completely and hope to introduce it at the ATA show next winter. They are completely out of stock and so are all the distribution channels - I've had several calls on them lately and can not locate another one anywhere at this time.

If anyone wants one. I am going to be getting rid of mine. Just not for me. $110 used 3 days.

I got lucky and got your last one:)

I just hope the new designs are not something I just have to have:D.

Anyone else have a different way of packing your turkey hunting accessories.

I've got all mine in my vest.

The new rackpack would benefit with having more and better pockets.

I dont know how anybody could be satisfied with a Rackpack without modding it like I did to mine. The shoulderstraps were an unfinished product, till I fixed it, and the crutch tips I put on fixed the leg issues. I LOVE mine now. Super comfy chair, carries my huge decoy spread, my blind, and fanny pack excellent. It works awesome as a hunting chair with no blind too. I used mine for ice fishing even, till I bought a different chair, so I wouldnt abuse my rackpack year around. Show me a better system, and I'll buy it. I'm with Cooter, I hope the new one isn't something I "have" to have.

I do have a few issues with it.

1.Too many plastic buckles seems like they are always hitting the metal frame of the chair or each other. Have been thinking about covering them with mole skin to quite them down. UCRs would be a big improvement to this setup.

2. Where the seat hooks in the chair position is two peaces of bare metal. You have to be very careful when hooking or you could get a loud metal on metal noise. I am currently coating mine with plastic dip to try and solve this issue. Plus this will make it black instead of chrome.

3. It almost leans too far back, with no adjustment.

4. It is almost impossible to get the headrest in the up possition with out getting a click out of the spring loaded pins that lock it in place.

My biggest issues are noise, but if I do a few mods and take my time setting up hopefully they wont be an issue.

If anyone is looking for another avenue (other than the rackpack) for carrying blinds etc. Check out the BlindHog by Hornhunter. The rack pack wasn't for me either but I love the BlindHog.

You can carry a ton of stuff in this thing and it's easy on the shoulders/back. Very reasonably priced too.

I have a blind hog too. Great product, except it won't haul as much gear/decoys as the Rackpack does. The metal eyelets on the Rack pack make no noise once you assemble and are seated in it, and even when assembling the chair, it is very minimal. Non, game spooking imo.

My thinking is that in nautical twilight I have a pretty good chance at banging them together. I dipped the whole end in os if it hits the out side legs of the pack it should reduce the noise.

Yea, I forgot about the ole nautical twilight. I use a l.e.d. Headlight, as my eyes don't do well in nautical. Good luck next Monday!
