rangefinders

I order a Bushnell Legend rangefinder today through Cabelas. It was the only water proof model they offered and the smallest dimension offered. It went on back order, so if anybody thinks I should look at something else I am listening.

Ironwood, I have the Bushnell Yardage Pro and used it last year. I like how easy it is to carry and how it fits in the palm of your hand. If you are looking for one specifically for bow hunting I would recommend this one. It only takes one hand to use this one because of it's size. I have the camo model but it comes in a plain color also which is alittle cheaper.

The Leica rangefinders are SWEET!! The problem is they are a bit pricey. I'm going to be getting one of those within the next couple of months. They have an 800 model and a 1200 model, the model #'s correspond with the yardage that they go up to. With optics you get what you pay for and in my opinion it's worth saving up a bit to get the best. Besides with Leica if you get one and it goes to crap they are going to take care of you.

trper, I just looked at Bushnell web site and all their rangefinders are yardage pros; sport, 500, 800,1000, legend and scout. The legend is the smallest and only waterproof one is that what you use. Muddy, I am going to look for Leicas site.

Thanks

IRONWOOD, YOU MAY WANT TO TRY WWW.NATCHEZSS.COM, THEY HAVE A GOOD SELECTION OF RANGEFINDERS AND IF YOUR LUCKY YOU MAY SEE A CLOSEOUT SALE FOR A MODEL YOU WANT. I PURCHASED A BUSHNELL 500 COMPACT FOR 139.00 ( FACTORY SECONDS WHICH CARRIED A FULL WARRANTY. GOOD LUCK

Leica only takes care of you for 1 year. Swarovski has a lifetime warranty.

Ironwood, the one I have is the scout. It comes in a camo pattern also for about 325.00. It sells for 300.00 out of the catalog. I did not know they made one smaller than the scout. It must be new for this year.

I didn't know Swarovski made a range finder to be honest

True with the Swarovski warranty though, but if you're throwing down some serious $$$ for a Leica I'm willing to bet that if you ding it up after the paper warranty is over they'll still work with you more so than a person would think. As far as I'm concerned Swarovski's and Leica's are the best brand of binoculars and they did't get to be the best by crapping on their customers. You won't be disappointed with the Leica but check out the others if you want to.

trper, the legend has the same dimensions as the scout but it's weight is about 4oz heavier. As a matter of fact it looks exactly the same. It is new this year and appears to have some beefed up features (waterproof is pulling me in).
Muddy, when I look at the leica's they appear to be very large and bulky. Has the size been an issue for you at any point?

I bought the Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout.

Have been very happy with it...

I also bought from dnrsports.com And paid 248.00 for it. There service was great, and quick.

That price was back in Oct of last year, so it may even be cheaper now...

fitzt, I just canceled my back order from Cabelas and ordered the Legend Yardage Pro from DNRSPORTS.com. This part is hard to believe. I saved $86.58. Good advice, thanks. Their site is very slow but worth the trouble.

Seems you've made a decision but I'll still reply for anyone else that's reading. The Leica's are anything but heavy. They do look bulky but if you put them into a suspender bino support system you don't know they're there. I don't know exact weights for Leicas but from what we've experienced it isn't an issue. Hope you enjoy the ones you bought, sounds like you gotta great deal.

I stopped into a local store here in DM and looked at the leicas. They are very light weight and not bulky at all. As I shopped a former bushnel 800 user came in and said he swithed to the leica and is not going back. My order on the bushnel legend went on back order again so I am checking with dnrsports.com for prices on leicas 1200 and 800. For some reason they have to e-mail the prices on the leica rangefinders. I'll post the results and let you know if I jumped again.

if you get the liectas bring them to the next shoot iron i would like to try them thinking of getting a different one anyway

The Leica's should run approxamately $380 for the 800's and approx $480 for the 1200's. I may be a bit high, I'll be able to tell you tonight after I return from my "support the hunting habit" job at Scheel's. I'll look up some other prices on other 'finders we have. If you do decide to go with a Leica, get it new otherwise the warranty may not be honored, of course not many other companies honor used items. Good luck.

You can find brand new range finders on ebay for cheap. I bought a Bushnell yardage pro scout for $250 brand new in the box. Scheels sells them for $300. Saved $65 after you pay tax at Scheels.

How does $360 sound. That is what DNRSPORTS is offering the leica 800 for. It also went on back order. If they keep doing that I'll keep shopping. Let me know if there is a better deal out there and thanks muddy

Any opinions on a good scope for my sons new mini14. I am thinking 3-9X40 and do not want to spend a bunch.

Iromwood

Glad I could Help you out... A friend of mine from PA told me about the place, and has been to the store.

Sounds like a good price too me, you shan't be disappointed with the Leica.

As for the scope I'd go with the 3x9-40, I think they are an all around pretty good scope. Price wise the Bushnell Trophy and the Tasco World Class are good quality for the $$$, otherwise if you wanted something nicer get a Leupold.
