I have four lone wolf climbing sticks and I love 'em, but I came across this deal in sportsmans guide and thought some of you guys may be interested. It's almost too good a deal to pass up. Has anyone used these? are they worth it?

(My catalog says that after Aug. 31st they are going up to 59 bucks)

Good Lord!!! Thanks, Shovel. They should have said they were the heavy steel ones. Yikes!!

Kat,

I own 6 Non-Typical Outfitter hang ons and 6 sets of Rapid Rails. They do NOT weigh 26 lbs. The rails are absolutely the best climbing sticks I have used. They are light, easy to use, completely enclose your boot and stand off the tree several inches giving a more secure feel when climbing and attaching your stand. Absolutely worth it. I have no clue where 26 lbs comes from, mine are not steel and are very light.

Kat, I ordered two sets out of cabelas. And then I seen them in sportsmans guide for half the price. I was kind of disapointed I didn't check Sportsmans Guide before I ordered them from Cabelas. But now that you made this post I feel much better about spending the extra money in cabelas. So thanks for a great post.

Rails are a great product. I have a few sets of the old rope style and have been using them for years. I also have the Lone Wolf sticks which are great also. The Rapid Rails offer some benifits the LW's don't, which the same could be said for the LW's. I think anyone who enjoys their LW's would also really like the Rails. It's nice to have the option of both.

Did SG change the weight on the web page? I'm pretty sure when I first posted that it said they weighed 14 lbs but I'm not positive. Now it says 24 ½#. At least they fixed their mistake. I had no idea there were two versions of rapid rails – steel and aluminum. I've bought stuff off and on from the Guide for years and never had a problem, but I am always a little leery when they have deals that look to good to be true.

One of my favorite things about the lone wolf sticks, which I'm not sure would be possible with the rapid rails, is to use one or two of them to climb high enough on VERY narrow trees (even a few inches wide) to clear shooting lanes if I need to. Yes, there are advantages to being light weight.

Yep, they do a nice job of that, the feet point inward so they work well on tiny diameter trees. Actually IMO the Rails are quite a bit easier to work from when clearing brush and branches. It's like working from a real ladder vs. just a foot peg.

I weighed my 4 LW sticks and 4 sections of Rails w/ rubber foot caps. There is less than a 1 lb difference in weight.
