First off, I just joined this site and so far I'm amazed at the content. Thanks for the great site!

My question has to do with early season rattling. Is the Oct. 11-19 muzzleloader season to early to use this approach?

Thanx for any help I can get.

My best luck rattling has come the last week of Oct. I've taken 3 nice bucks on Oct 30 & 31 the past 3 bow seasons with the horns. They seem to really react to this pre rut rattling at this time. Muzzleloader season might be a little early.

First off, let me say what a beautiful buck you've got there. Definitely one to be proud of.

When it comes to rattling, you should be able to do it right from the get-go, but until late Oct. it's probably not a good idea to do anything more than some sparring. LB hit the nail on the head when he said late Oct. is best, and that's about the time you can really simulate those big buck fights.

in my opinion i think the last weekend of early muzzleloader season until november is the best time to rattle.i almost never do until then and seldom to much after that time until the post rut, but what do i know ive never shot a monster because of rattling but have rattled up some real potentials.

Welcome to the site! I've got to agree with legbone, the end of October is when I start to rely on the horns, at least for the big boys. I always carry them with me though, just in case. I just haven't had the best luck rattling in mature bucks earlier in October. There is something about Halloween that seems to get them get them going.

Thanx for the replies, I'll try it but I guess I won't be real hopefull. Here's another shot of the buck I posted already. He was taken last year, first day, fifteen mins in the stand by bow.
