When do you guys break out the rattling antlers normaly. When do you find is traditionaly the best time to rattle. I pulled in my first wall hanger last year with a set of bone on October 23.
Many different people have many different opinions on how much and when to rattle during the pre-rut. I myself haven't had a whole lot of success with it, I think mainly due to the high doe to buck ratio that I have in my area. In general though, I think most men and women hunters would agree that the tail end of Oct. would be your best chance at a bruiser, maybe the last week to ten days of the month I would guess.
CRITR
"social sparring" starts iimmediately after velvet shedding... light tinkling works all season if done in the right place and situation. hard core horn busting is a bit off yet.
I've been seeing some young bucks traveling by themselves and not in bachelor groups the last couple of days. I'm thinking they got their butts kicked by the big boys. If true, some rattling might work.
If I were still hunting I'd be rattling right now, the bucks were already pushing and shoving the night I shot my buck and that was 11 days ago, I'd bet the bachelor groups are split up right now. Oh dang it, I can't believe I don't know what's going on out there.....that's it, I'm buying my antlerless tag tonight and going to see what's roaming the woods now!!!!!
well, i myself would say that tickling the tines together would work good all year! but as far as cracking and grinding them together, i have found the best day here in ohio to do this is, the first day in october when the high temp for the day is in the 30's(that is saying that you get a 30 degree day in october) and the barometric pressure being high and rising
