Razorbacks in southern IA

I was just at my pro shop and a guy came in w/ a picture of 5 hogs his group had taken west of Wapello somewhere. Not high fence! According to him the guys around there have killed about 19 of them.

This kind of disturbs me because I know these things reproduce as fast as rabbits and leave a ton of damage in there wake.

In talking to him the guy told me that they believe someone from around there brought them up there from Ark. since they were all razorbacks. Why I have no idea.

I guess it is open season on them like coyotes.

I just hope we get a handle on these things and kill every last one of them.

I know I heard about some being spotted in IA but 19 killed in that area makes me weary of them spreading.

Just thought some of you might want to know about this.

So with the Cedar River and the Iowa River meeting in Columbus Junction, most likely only a matter of time until they migrate along the cover associated with the rivers, right into my backyard.

Have heard of this for a while now. I do a little hunting around Jct., and live just a hop outside of Wapello. Time to do a little digging!

I didn't know that they were sighted around columbus junction. My father in laws ground is just N of there and south of Conesville along the cedar. I'll have to go check it out there pretty hard.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually a razorback is a domestic hog gone wild that has inbread a few generations. They do somewhere along the line have to cross with a russian, so basically, It only takes one russian in the group to produce razorbacks.

I did see a small black hog running right down the shoulder of the road a couple years ago. He was going about Mach 2, and we just figured he was putting as much room between himself and IBP as he could! He was headed for Conesville!! Looked hilarious!!!

That or he was busti'n chops to get over to the Hog Wild rodeo!!

If anybody wants to get a hog hunt going, send my a PM and I'll be happy to help. I hunt the Cranston area, didn't need any hogs on our side of the river.
