Realtree Outdoors on TNN

Did any of you guys happen to see Realtree Outdoors on TNN this weekend? They showed the footage from the Primetime 6 video of Stan Potts taking his Whopper Buck. Funny thing was that they had edited out the shot and any comment he made about where he had hit it. After reading all the posts a while back about the ethics concerning his choice to shoot it in the neck I thought it was interesting that Realtree had "fixed" the problem. Kind of makes you wonder how often we really see what's going on. Bye the way, I just watched the Primetime 6 video this weekend. So what's up with all the crying? I can understand the guy getting a bit emotional about the "dedication to his father", but that other guy, gee whiz!

I only cry when I miss!

There was a big discussion on this show and the shot on bowhunting.com. In my opinion, it was a questionable shot. Primetime Bucks 6 shows the deer running away with the arrow sticking out of the deer's chest. In regards to the emotional thing, what's with all the high-fives and fist pumping on the Primetime 6 video? Seems a little faked to me.

I think the powers that be at H.S. "prodded" a more emotional response from the pro staffers, but I'm pretty sure it backfired. It's like a bad middle school play. If I need a good laugh after a hard day, I pop in PT 6 and let the crying take me away......

Eddie(i've never made a clean shot on a deer yet)Salter should be sent back to (deliveranceville)west virginia. Stan Potts is an exciting hunter with alot of experience under his belt and I think the shot was justified, for him. I do think they should have discussed that point a little bit for the younger viewers.

I'm with you guys ,they were trying real hard to make some parallel likeness of hunting a deer for pleasure and Sep. 11. It was totally transparent.

RELAX GENTLEMEN----I KNOW EDDIE, ALEX AND RICK AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT THERE ISNT ANYTHING I WOULDNT DO FOR EITHER ONE OF THOSE MEN....... RICK WAS VERY CLOSE TO HIS FATHER, EDDIE IS THE SMOOOOOOOTHEST TALKER I HAVE EVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE HUNTIN STORIES WITH, AND ALEX RUTLEDGE COMES FROM A SMALL PLACE IN THE WORLD AND HAS PERSUED HIS LOVE FOR THE HUNT TO HIS FULLEST POTENTIAL. THESE GUYS HUNT HARD AND YEA THE EMOTIONS FLOWED, BUT DAVE FORBES DID NOT TRY THERE EMOTIONS TO SELL VIDEO TAPES. MY OPINION STANDS AS STATED ---THEY ARE WELCOME TO SHARE A TURKEY BLIND OR TREE STAND IN MY WOODS ANYTIME THATS PRIMETIME....
AS FOR POTTS, I DONT KNOW HIM AT ALL, BUT I WILL AGREE THAT THE SHOT WAS AWEFULL AND CREDIT REALTREE AND BUCKMASTERS TV SHOWS FOR EDITING A POOR SHOT SELECTION.
JUST ONE MANS OPINION
M350 OUT

I haven't seen the video, but I did see the scene on realtree, what a buck! The emotion seemed real to me and very heart felt. I thought the emotion was indeed warranted, I am sure he was feeling a certain amount of relief to find the deer after a questionable shot, plus the elation of such a magnificent buck, and the added emotion of taking the life of such an animal. I have been there before, and I hope I never get so numb to it that I can't show some emotion. If you truly respect the animal it would be very hard not to feel some sort of emotions, not saying you need to cry like an infant, but what's wrong with real heartfelt emotions?

What do these gentlemen that are on this video do for a living other than make these videos??Do they hold other jobs??Do they only have two possible weeks a year to go out and scout areas, set up stands, and try to hunt before returning to work??Are the areas pre-scouted to let them know if this caliber of deer is around? How do they do it????

Luvtohunt, You need to see the video. I enjoy watching Stan Potts and a little "heart felt" emotion is not the problem. The guy that dedicated the hunt to his father who was dying, I'm sure we can all understand that as well. But you want to see "crying like a baby" then take a look at Rutledge.....Good Grief!!!! And as for Eddie Salter, no offense to you M350, he may be a smoooooooth talker, but he needs to work on some smooooother shootin'!!!! Dirt Esox is right on, after a hard day and you need a good laugh.....just pop in the PT6 video!

What gets me is how often the shot is obviously too high in the back, too far back for the lungs, or square in the neck/shoulder blade, and the hunter yells "perfect shot!" Ever notice how after these "perfect shots" and "he's down...let's go get him!" that the camera light clearly indicates hours have passed and not five minutes as they pretend.

Mabye I should see the video before commenting but I will comment anyway. Mabye rutledge was really faking it, but I highly doubt it. I think it would be nearly imposible to fake emotions over a matter like that. When you think of a deer like the one stan potts shot if you truly respect the animal you would be very emotional. A deer like that is big for a reason. It has eluded hunters for at least five years and probably more like 6, or7 years. It has survived hard winters, and predators, and it is wrong for you to laugh at them for being emotional. I beleive until you have been there you won't understand.

I guess I figured everyone gets "jacked" when they shoot a big one. High fives are a must when me or one of my buddies shoots a deer! You are taking a life. I guess everyone has their own way of showing emotion.
Pupster
P.S. I mean I really get Jacked! I can't wait.

You're right Youngbuck, you probably shouldn't comment on it until you see it. Furthermore, Stan Potts emotions are not in question;I'm sure he was genuine. But if you watch PT6 and you can honestly tell me you don't think some of the other pro staffers are embellishing a bit, well....

Bottom line: PT6 is an action packed video with some unbelievable hunts and bonus footage, but-I think after years and years of shows with seemingly desensitized hunters that draw tags in 15 states and shoot 5 or so P&Y game animals a year, H.S. is capitalizing on Joe Hunter's (me and you) need to see a more human side to the pro staffers, make the viewing audience say, "Hey, those guys on TV are just like me.". Those guys are not like you and me. They get PAID to do it, we don't. Their livelihood and endorsement value depends on their ability to consistently harvest mature deer, elk, turkey, and so on. Whether we would like to admit it or not it's a business for them, which is fine because I love to watch their videos and TV shows. But don't insult my intelligence with subpar Dinner Theatre acting.

Here's the true test-watch Primetime 1 through 5 and then watch PT6. I don't think there is one crying episode on any of the previous 5. Remember, these are just one bowhunter's opinions.

BACK IN 99' I HUNTED WITH AN OUTFITTER WHO IS A GOOD FRIEND OF OURS. THAT WEEK HE HAD A VIDEO CREW IN CAMP WHO I WILL NOT MENTION. THEY ARE A REGULAR ON THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL AND WE WERE FORTUNATE TO BE ON THE VIDEO. THE POINT HERE IS THAT WE SAW HOW THESE GUYS " SCRIP " A HUNT. FROM THE SET UP TO THE HARVEST AND EVEN THE PART WHERE THEY CLEAN UP THE AREA THE DEER FELL, POSITION THE DEER AND COROGRAPH THE " WALK UP " TO THE ANIMAL. ONE GUY WHO WAS PART OF THE SHOW DID SOME THINGS THAT WEEK THAT MADE OUR HOSTS WIFE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH SOME FOOTAGE THEY SHOT ON A COYOTE HARVEST. THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE THESE VIDEOS ARE INDEED HUNTERS LIKE US WHO HAVE A VESTED INTREST IN DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SHOOT ANIMALS, GET THE BEST FOOTAGE ON TAPE AND MAKE THE VIDEOS THAT ARE THEIR LIVELYHOOD. WOULD I HAVE PASTED UP THAT SHOT STAN POTTS TOOK ?? KIND OF ON THE FENCE POST ABOUT THAT. IT WAS A HUGE BUCK !!BUT, IF THESE " PROFESSIONALS" ARE GOING TO SHOW THE FOOTAGE TO SELL THE VIDEO THEN THEY SHOULD TAKE THEIR NOCKS FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE A HIGH PERCENTAGE AND SEEMINGLY UNETHICAL SHOT THAT YOUNG ARCHERS SHOULD BE TAUGHT AGAINST.I AM SURE THAT ALL THE TEAMS THAT MAKE UP THE HUNTIMG SHOWS WE SEE ON T.V. DO NOT ACT LIKE THE GROUP WE WERE IN CAMP WITH BUT AS THE SAYING GOES " IT ONLY TAKES ONE BAD APPLE TO SPOIL THE BUNCH "

As I mentioned in another post, Stan Potts would've had a beautiful slowly walking chip-shot-range broadside shot had he not grunted to stop the deer while the thing was still coming in. It's an awesome deer, but they were damn lucky to find it after a shot like that.
