Reasons why blaze orange is a good law

A couple years ago I was still hunting along the edge of a slough.Theres a big thicket there that usually has deer bedded in it and a pheasant hunter told me theyd run some deer in there earlier including one real decent buck.I snuck in there and just like he said there was deer everywhere. The buck stood up about 15 yrds in front of me, i aimed my muzzleloader at him, flicked off the safety and was going to pull the trigger on him.

I didnt finish doing that and it took me a minute to figure out why.I had no idea 2 pheasant hunters had come out of the slough and were standing directly behind the deer and thicket i was aiming into even though they were only probably 40 yrds from me.If Id pulled the trigger there woulda been no missing them.

Funny thing was both had orange on, one a vest and the other a sweatshirt.Even though i didnt know they were there and I was totally prepared to shoot that deer something didnt feel right and i didnt shoot. The only thing I ever figured out was I seen thier orange and it didnt register right away with me.

If they hadnt had orange on Id o more than likely shot one of them. And legally since they were pheasant hunting they didnt have to wear it.Teeroy said the government shouldnt interfere becaus it was his life and if he got shot it was his own fault. But thiers two sides to every shooting, the one who gets shot and the one that pulls the trigger.

If Id of shot that guy with a 50 cal at 40 yrds it wouldnt have been good. But Id of also had to lived with it, and id of been charged for it.And both our families woulda had to have dealt with it.So you see, it really affects a lot more than your choice to wear orange or not, it can affect everyone hunting around you if you choose not to wear it.

personally i think it's a good idea for blaze orange and bird hunters. most people wear it anyway in the groups i hunt with. maybe some people think that the orange will interfere with how they look in their little khaki colored upland outfits??

i agree 100% that blaze orange is a smart idea, and should be worn, especially durring deer, gun seasons. but a LAW? absolutely not. its is retarded that we make it ILLEGAL.

teeroy for president!!! Don't forget about that Homeland Deer Management Secretary position.

I see no problem wearing orange by any means, if it would prevent me from getting shot im all for it. I used to hate wearing orange, well now where i hunt at they make you wear orange to and from your tree, basically if you get out of that tree and dont get your orange on and the right person sees you, you are done hunting there. its just a rule, but i dont think its that bad of one

It's law here, not in bird season but during rifle season it's mandatory. Not justa vest either, full suit, orange or white with an orange hat or toque. The deer don't notice it and it helps see somebody in the distance big time. I'm with Muddy, I think people just don't like the thought of it ruining their fancy little hunting suits appearance.

like i said, "some people", not myself. sorry, my favorite attire for birdhunting is blue jeans or my camo carhartts topped with orange hat and game vest.

To be really honest wearing orange bothers some deer hunters more than it bothers the deer. It personally doesn't bother me because I've been within bow range of hundreds of deer while wearing orange. I wear it to and from the stand already when I'm bow hunting during early muzzleloader season. I take it off when I get in my stand.

I think the orange is a great thing. I wear it while hunting every thing except ducks and turkeys. I like the idea of making it a law because that may force some dummies to wear it even if they think it is worthless. I feel like I have the right to not have to worry about shooting one of those dummies and giving hunters another black eye in the press with a story about a senceless tragic hunting accident. Even if I were completely blameless I would still have a tremendous guilt reaction just because someone felt it unnessacery to wear hunter orange.
I have also had several deer come within 20 yards while in a tree stand and just standing in unpicked corn dressed in orange hat, coat, bibs, and gloves. I know it wouldn't make most bow hunters happy, but I'm not sure it would hurt them either. Just my opinion, I hope I don't ruffle any feathers.
