Regs question for coon humting

Hi All, a friend of mine at work has land on the IL side and walks the woods with lights shining for coon and takes them that way out of trees. It sounds like a lot of fun and he does well. I see in the IA regs that you can use hand held lights when hunting with dogs for coon. The last part about "with dogs" makes me think what he does would not fly in IA. Anybody know for sure? It sounds fun and wanted to take my son out over Christmas break. Thanks for the help.

Illinois could be different but in iowa you can't just go out and spot light them, you will need a dog.

If you want to have fun hunting coons the legal way, buy a fox pro and find a tree with a hole in it and call them out. It's a blast!

I believe you can shine coons in Illinois but the light you use has to be hand held and not attached or powered by a vehicle or atv. That's the way it was a few years ago when I hunted with hounds.
