I have been using my current release ($20-30 TruFire from Gander Mountain) for 5+ years now and it's never let me down but she's getting a little wore out so it's time to upgrade. The one I am currently using it a wrist strap style release and I'm curious if anybody used the new style release that you just hold in your hand (not sure what their called) when you draw, no strap. What style are you guys using and what brands? Is one style better than the other? Will one gain me something the other style won't? Thanks for the help!

If you are wanting to shoot another wrist strap i would spend the little extra money and get a Scott or something of that quality. As far as hand helds (T Handles) most guys will argue that you need to spend $$$ to get a good one. I shot a Tru-ball t handle for a couple years, i never knew what i was missing until i shot my buddies Carter. Needless to say my Tru-Ball has been in my pack as a back up for the last 2 years... Carter, Stan, Hot shot are probably the better releases. I am sure i left out a few.

I had a Stan SX-2 and loved it! It was super smooth and very tweakable. I only sold it because a wrist style release was a little more hunter friendly to me. Now I have a TRU Fire Hardcore.

As for the SX-2, they're a little pricey, but you can get a pretty good deal on one in the Archery Talk Classifieds.

Good luck!

I upgraded to a Tru Ball Boss X and the main reason I chose the release was the ability to lock onto my D loop! I've shoot it all spring including on an Iowa Gobbler and it works perfectly! I wanted a release the enabled me to leave it attached to my bow and free up my hands for rattling and constantly using my binoculars! Now I know some wrist releases lock back to free up hands, but I certain I'm not the only one who hates a metallic clank on a frosty morning ruining a hunt! Shop around and try releases before you choose one! The guys at Bass Pro allowed me to try the BossX without purchasing it, but then I searched online to find on almost half the price of the listed price of $210. I've always wanted to switch to a t handle release and finally found the right one after years of searching for the right one that met my needs! I'd never switch back now that I've realized what I've been missing all these years!
