i think i've pretty much got my mind made up on the rifle i want to get....a few questions for you folks if you would be so kind...

1) SPS vs SPS DM
what can anyone tell me of the pros and cons of the DM option...

2) Where have you guys seen these guns being sold the cheapest? I was going to wait until my cabelas credit card produced enough points/dollars to take a big chunk out of the guns total...but i might as well look around if there are cheaper options for the same gun.

3) Scopes???...I'm like everyone else i suppose, i want a really good one but don't want to give my left one for it.

I'm not sure this was the best place to post this, but i wanted you guys' opinions...

As far as scopes go, I have Nikons on everthing I own. For the money, they are a great scope.

What are you using the 30-06 for?

Well...around here probably nothing lol...maybe lighter loads for coyote or something...my dad's got .243 and 6mm that i can use anytime i want...

i just wanted to have something a little bigger. Was looking for something that could handle most N. American big game...and i wanted a bullet that i could pick up about anywhere...it came down to 30-06 and .308

i shoot a Nikon Monarch on my MUZZ
i love it, it collects tons of light and is very clear!!!!

I was just curious, although the 06 has been very popular, I would prefer something a little "flatter shooting" myself.

.270 for deer

Anything larger a 7mm Mag. or a .300 Win. Mag. ... my 2 cents.

I buy a lot of guns off of gunbroker.com. You can have most gun dealers handle your ffl paperwork for $20-25, which is required when you buy a gun online. I have gotten some fabulous deals on gunbroker. Tough to beat Leupold scopes IMO. I also have some Burris Scopes and am pleased with them too. I buy most of my guns off of Lindy at Lindys' Guns in Boone,IA. He is tough to beat in price. 515-432-2219

I agree that Gunbroker is a great place to start, new or used you can always seem to find a deal on there (20-30% cheaper than what I have been quoted by any store in the past) especially if you are not in a hurry to make your purchase. I personally have not ordered a gun from them but wish I had when I bought my 10 gauge as I would have saved a couple hundred bucks. However, I know of a handful of guys that have bought over a dozen guns off of that site and not a single one was displeased.

I really think you should look into the .300 win mag. I just think it is the best cartridge that most people can hunt.

I agree

May even consider a 25-06 as well. Probably the most versatile round for yotes and deer. The 700 is a good gun choice as well.

The 30-06 is the most versatile hunting round available; especially if you are wanting one gun that can do it all. You can hunt anything in North America with this round. Check out this ballistic chart.
