Replacing trees in timber stands

I am planning to replace some trees that had died in the timber behind our house with some new trees in order to try and eventually get the view of the neighbor's house blocked a little more again. I am just not sure what kind of success I should expect when these trees will not have full sun. What trees have you had success with? I would like to plant some version of oaks and maples.

if privacy you are looking for then try poplar. They will grow quickly and then behind them you can pant your oaks and maples. Just an idea.

Oaks are sun loving and for screening cover, it is hard to be a pin oak. How much sunlight will they get per day?

Hemlock. For screening, I'd think you'd want an evergreen. They say that Hemlock is the only true shade-tolerant evergreen. Though anybody from up north has seen pines growing on the forest floor. I'd have to see the site, but white pine or tamarack (larch) might work too.

Maples need sun and oaks grow slow. (though an Amur Maple (small) will tolerate shade)

Can also try Poplar, aspen, hackberry, hickory, ironwood, musclewood...

I would plant Norway Spruce; they do well in partial shade or full sun; Hemlocks are susceptible to various invasive pests and are preferred browse for our little whitetailed friends. I've even had Norways do well in full shade but they tend to be a little sparse. Good luck, privacy is almost everything!
