Rifled Barrel?

Can I shoot normal slugs out of a rifled barrel? Can I shoot rifled slugs out of a rifles barrel? If not, I'm confused on the point of a rifles barrel.

Riffled slugs (grooves in the slug) give slugs a little spin from a smooth barrel and decent accuracy out to 50 or if lucky 100 yds. Riffled barrels (grooves in barrel) shooting sabot slugs give a lot of spin and accuracy to 150 plus.
