Well, I got busted for the 54th time shooting at a Robo-deer at night. Darn! :drink2: Just so tempting and after a case of beer & some cruising with my rifle, how could anyone resist?!?!? After 17 shots from my SKS I got out and tried to slit its throat but was electrocuted from all the wiring that moves the head- darn that hurt!

Do we have these here? Obviously we've all seen the wildlife law enforcement hidden camera shows where they nail these idiots left and right, I love seeing these idiots get nailed. 2 years ago I had a piece of garbage driving by a farm I had permission at EVERY DAY and shooting deer out the window day or night. I'd come back from BOW HUNTING a stand and passing 5-10 bucks and some does and this dude was shooting everything he could out his window. FINALLY I was sitting there one morning and about an hour after light- BOOM, right by the road.... I RUN out creeping along the creek and see these punks in the ditch with rifles.... I RUN straight at them and they jumped in their little foreign truck and gunned it. I called the DNR & Sheriff, good description of these PUNKS but no plate- don't know what happened. That morning these studs put down a 1.5 year old 6 pointer that the DNR guy brought to HUSH. I saw 4 bucks 3.5 and older that morning that I could have shot with a BOW and a handful of others that were smaller/younger and I have to deal with these clowns!! I am 100% in support of my license fees directing some of the $ to robo-bucks and nailing these crooks. Drives me insane! I got cameras out galore on my ground BUT a lot of farms get shot to piss and it's sad to see a mature buck live for all these years to get blasted by some garbage human being from a vehicle.

How would these work out in your neighborhood, day or night? Would you volunteer your land as a set-up location?

you would think they would use something with bigger antlers, not a very big buck to poach, The MO dept of conservation use to use them when I lived in MO not sure if they still do but always got people shooting at it

Needs to be like a 170" Buck :p

I'm for it, I have zero tolerance for low life poaching scum who can't obey laws nor other peoples property.. after they shoot the deer you should be able to shoot some holes in there truck too.

I've heard of this being used in Iowa. I'm all for it as well and hope they catch more people poaching.

We've been trying to get them to do this up here for awhile. It would definitely make them think twice when trying to poach one.

I'm sure it would work great just about anywhere in the state. I can practically guarentee you that it would work around the Des Moines area to the southeast where I'm from.

They are used in Alabama and prove to work out the first few nights....after that the word is spread about robo and the scumbags become more cautious. Totally depends on how Dnr deploys it and the tactics they use!

Tell me what you think about this.... An IDEA would be to spend maybe $1,000 on a full-mount buck - maybe split it with 5 or 6 landowners. Have the taxidermist re-inforce it and make it "tough" so it can take a bullet- like they do with robo-buck (said it took 1,000 shots and it was finally shot). Set the thing out on your land just VIDEO the guys shooting it from your hidden location. You then turn the video in to CO OR call the authorities when it's happening. I know folks would need to be careful with these clowns for safety reasons BUT I wonder if this would work?!?!?!

That is a great idea Skip, but I would guess the dnr would not allow it for "safety" issues. If they say its ok, I will get my taxidermist to work asap.
Ten years ago in Nebraska on some platte river land I owned I let the game wardens put their decoy up during the nov. rifle season since I only bowhunted. They put it on my lane 100 yards behind a padlocked gate which is on a minimum maintainence road. They parked on a bluff with the spotting scope and caught people as fast as they could get back set up all week everyday. Some guys would be reloading while they knocked on the vehicle. It used to be pretty scarey over there during rifle season, thats why I live here now.I believe the dnr uses one in my area, but when I was talking to our co a couple years ago he said their biggest problem is finding a safe place to do it, with the liability and all.

I think it would be just as legal to put out a deer like that as putting out a decoy. You can also hunt with a mounted turkey as a decoy and I know a few folks that do have mounted deer to hunt with. Using them as "BAIT" for poachers VS "BAIT" for deer- I "think" you'd be fine BUT I am gonna check into this!!!

Great point. Man that would a great way to spend shotgun season around here. Just set up safely with the video camera on a tripod and a spotting scope and cell phone, probably should be armed too. Who knows what they will do after they shoot it.

they use these in iowa all the time, especially southern iowa when Missouri's rifle seaosn is going on.... they get some interesting encounters with these guys....

I've never had anyone shoot at a deer (that I know of) on the property I hunt, but have seen guys shoot at pheasants from the road that were a good 100 yards away. Plus, they were not even 50 yards from my house nor the house on the other property. I gave their license plate and 5 empty 12 guage shells to the sheriff. I'm sure he ended up catching them.

I know for a fact that we have them here. I know a taxidermist that mounted one up for a conservation officer, it's a 180+ typical rack and has helped take a few would be's down.
