Ruger 10-22 question?

I have a question about Ruger 10-22’s. I am really wanting to get one of these and trick it out (stock, barrel, ect.) My question though is can I buy all the components separately and build it myself or do I need to buy a basic model and switch everything over from there? I know you can buy custom stocks and barrels but can a guy buy the trigger mechanism and receiver separately and start from there? If I can that is the way I would like to go and invest the money in other parts that I want instead of buying a basic model and stripping down.

I might be wrong but I think you will have to start with a base 10/22. I don't think you can get the reciever. I've thought about tricking mine out, but it would be to play so, I would rather spend the money on other hunting accessories, lol. You going for a target shooting model, or thining about the .17HMR?

I looked at fixing a Marlin .22 autoloader and many of the action parts in the owners manual were FFL restricted. I would guess you would run into this with the Ruger as well. My only guess is that it is an attempt to discourage people from trying to make them fully automatic.

I am going to go with one of these for my 10/22. 17 HM2

As far as I know...you have to get a base 10/22 then make the switch out with aftermarket accessories and parts.

Jethro,
You do have to buy a base 10/22. What i would do is start going to gun shows. You might find one started that you like and then trick it out from there. Did you know you can shoot arrows from them now? Talk about crazy.

I was told a shady story on how to use a break action shotgun to do this a few years ago. My guess is that it is only good for those looking to cheat on a bow license. Please educate me if there is a legitimate application.

Short of novelty, I don't see any.
