Rut after slug

For MN slug starts this weekend and runs through Nov. 11. I am up at college and won't make it back to now hunt before slug hunting and sadly there are about 10 different people who hunt this grove I bow hunt. The rut is on here and I'm scared that all opportunities after slug will be no shooters. I'm the only one who bow hunts this grove. Any ideas or reassurance lol

I know the feeling of being stuck at school and not being able to get back home to bow hunt. I say just skip class :way:

Thats MN deer hunting for you, in my opinion if you are used to an Iowa rut you will be sadly disappointed here in MN. Ive been here 6 seasons and still have a hard time even getting excited to bowhunt. Not trying to piss in your cheerios but its as different here in MN as black and white compared to Iowa in a large portion of the state. Many deer hunters here are simply happy to see a buck, let alone shoot a mature one. My best advice is to lower your standards, dont be too picky, and just have fun and go back to Iowa and hammer a hog over Thanksgiving break. :)

Where you in school at?

Im driving 2.5 hours home tonight and skipping my two classes tomorrow so i can hunt all day. Guess its all about your priorities lol

If you are hunting by Morris, or in the area, it will be a tough hunt after the gun season...I try to bowhunt hard this week due to our stupid early shotgun season.

I'm 20 miles east of Morris

I'm actually hunting in Ortonville, MN. Are you in the Starbuck area?

And I've never actually hunted in Iowa just love the talk on here;)... Luckily though the land I've been hunting has produced some big mature bucks and the land that butts up to it "Supposedly" has 3 deer that gross 200+... Now I dont necessarily believe that at all, but give or take 50 inches and I'm still happy;).. I'm going to school in Moorhead, MN

Well then, you're in a different category of deer hunting up there than where I live. My wifes family is from Morehead and we're up in DL quite a bit over the summer. The deer population/quality of bucks seems to be pretty decent. I was in the Guard there jn Fargo and have quite a few friends that do well on the MN side there but you still have to contend with the guns during the rut....aaagh.

That's why I decided to skip school Thursday and Friday and hopefully let an arrow fly! Wish me luck.. I'll need it
