It's been slow in my area. I was in the stand over 20 hours from 11/4 to 11-6 and only saw one buck actively pursuing a doe. I never saw deer moving before 4:30...and not a single deer in the mornings.

Yesterday's heat and the resurrection of the ladybugs was enough to convince me to go home and watch the Hawkeyes. Maybe I'll go out again this afternoon.

Not here!!! It's like there are no deer even living around my place. If it weren't for glimpses at dark in the headlights I'd say they all left for Iowa!

Slow here it seems....scrapes aren't worked and the bucks don't seem to be up and running today...pm hunt in 20 minutes

It's on like Donkey Kong here, lots of bucks wandering around aimlessly, I don't think many does are ready, but the bucks are looking

In the last 3 days the rut really seems to be kicking in here in SW Iowa. We have seen a lot of chasing, bucks running around with their nose to the ground, checking out ever doe or fawn that the see. I have seen several bucks cornering and holing up with a lone doe. This next week should be HOT!

They have really been moving here this week. Check out my post in the harvest forum. I thought I was going to have to fight off a big buck yesterday.

Things are heating up in my area. I saw 6 bucks and 12 does last night. Tonight, I saw 8 bucks, and 8 does. And, I almost got ran over by a group of deer. I got out late, and was trying to get to my stand a little before 4:00 - I was walking down the middle of a very wide grassy waterway. About 100 yards from my stand, I see 4 deer in front of me - 2 bucks and 2 does.

I Figured I had bumped them from bedding in the grass. I knelt down, then realized that they were coming towards me, not running away. The bucks had their mouths open, and were running the does hard. I dropped on my belly, and the bigger buck and two does didn't see me, but veered slightly, and passed by me within 10 yards. The other buck was on a beeline to me, so I stuck my hand up and waived at him. He froze, and I waited til the other deer were out of sight, then stood up and ran him off. It was a bit unnerving for a few seconds. The rest of the night was just as crazy. Grunting, herding, following - looked like a frat party. Good news was that I saw a deer that I named Casper. He is bigger than I thought when I saw him last night. Should easily go 150+ . Tall rack that is almost bleached white. Hope to get a closer look at this guy soon.
