Rye and Winter Wheat:

What is the difference between Rye and Wheat? Both near same price? Both as hardy? Both near the same thing? Which is better for the soil?

I'll make it simple for you... Skip the WW and just plant rye if it's between the 2. Rye is much easier to seed, not as needy & greedy on the N and deer will prefer it over WW. I'm a mediocre fan of RYE but I'll take it anyday over WW. Other reasons Dbltree can explain. If u have the ability or means, I'd mix some winter peas, clover, oats and radishes with it if you are able

Rye is much more cold tolerant. The wheat will freeze out this fall / winter and the rye will stay green all winter (mostly) and green up quick in late winter early spring.
