Today i'm going to have to do one of the hardest things i have ever done. I have to take my buddy Trooper in to be put down!:( I never in the whole world thought if would be this hard! I don't even know what i'm going to tell my kids? He's been with us for 13yrs.

I am truly sorry and feel for you. I never understood how someone could get so attached to a animal until I bought my dog. Truly are mans best friend. Remember the good times and give him a proper burial! I'll crack a beer for you and Trooper tonight :(

Sorry to here about you family member. It is on of the toughest things to deal with. I've been there. Only time will heal.

I, too, used to say "Its just a dog" until I brought our first one home. I now know I'll be lost without her. My heart goes out to you and your family for your loss.

Wow, sucks man. Had to do that a couple of years ago. Hold on to the good times. Remember they don't live much longer than 13 years anyway and focus on the positive. When I had to put Maggie Mae down, I told the kids she was very sick and a doctor was going to try to give her a shot to make her feel better but it may not work. They spent the rest of the day with her and the next morning had a very, very good vet friend come to my place and held her as he administered the shot (I felt I owed that to her as she hated the vets office). Absolutely the toughest, saddest thing I have ever had to do. But you can't keep them around if they are in pain.

The kids understood, they will be sad but let them say their good byes. It's important. The pain never goes away but focus on what a good life he had! :way:

Sums it up pretty well.

Sorry for your loss, I know what you're going through.

BTW - the treestand will offer some good "medicine" for you to reflect on the 13yrs you all shared.

So sorry I cried for three days when I put my Lab down. I got him when I was 18 and that dog was with me damn near every second I wasn't working he made until he was 15 . New puppy maybe?

Lost my lab

We lost our yellow lab about a week ago, hit by a car he was 11 years old...he rarely ventured near the highway. It was a shock and I felt a knot in my stomach for two days...I feel for you.

We do have a new puppy and that really helps...my boys feel better now that we have a new yellow lab pup.

I want to thank you all for all the kind words. Your advice really helped me get though the day. REST IN PEACE TROOPER!

So sorry for your loss ... RIP Trooper.

We too have a black lab that is going on 14 year old ... we have been talking with the boys and encouraging them to enjoy every moment.
