Thanksgiving is for something you're thankful for. Of course, I'm thankful for my family and what God has given us. But today, today just is an awful day for me. One of my best places was bought a few weeks ago and the new landowner didn't even mention he was going to tear down the trees. The thing I'm thankful for today is the chance to be able to hunt this place. I'll sure miss it.

I'm sorry for your loss, Th.. I know what you are going through..

I am a bit of a tree hugger myself, and I'd like to think most real hunters are too ..

It's hard to see this happen to you. Especially, knowing we live in a state that doesn't have a whole lot of timber..

I think this is motivation for one day saving enough to buy your own piece of land.

It would probably be something that wouldn't happen in the near future, but it would be worth the wait if possible.

It's amazing to think what true land ownership would be like. Your mind just starts to turn and the ideas come in bunches..

You have delt with a lot recently and I hope you can find a little cheer on this day and I hope some great blessing come your way.

:drink1:Cheers to one day either owning our own land or getting more land to hunt.. Where we will have true run of the place..

Sucks... its been happening around here a lot... gotta farm every inch possible! Its only going to get worse.. I was told by the county that within 10 years they will probably take away the tax exempt part of the forest reserve program... which will only cause more destroyed timber

That just happened here. We lost two private timbers to a new owner. One day the trees were there the next they were gone. Both are now turned into feed lots. Alot of good prime hunting down the drain.

Sad. I noticed this stuff when I was about 14 yrs old... Right when I got places to hunt (20 yrs ago!!!) and it's bothered me ever since. Fueled my passion for conservation. I'm planting thousands of trees per yr and amounts to nothing vs what's being done but at least what I can control is great for consevation. Hope this fuels ur fire to get ground and not allow the rampage to go on if u choose. Sucks but if u put ur mind to it- u could own a place this will not b allowed on. Work hard!

^^^this is what happens when farmers buy ground for too much then corn crashes to 4 bucks a bushel. You have to farm every inch of the ground to save yourself from going under.

This has happened to me the past 2 years in a row. It's sad, especially when you don't know it's coming and the quality of land isn't that great for farming.

Jmo not trying to start a fight but I don't see anyone going under. I see trees going down, tile going in and a lot of new houses, trucks and tractors. My buddy farms a good amount of ground and I never hear him complain. He's making money but just not cashing in like he was when corn was $7.00. I think stuff is getting so big and nobody wants to go around anything. They want big straight shots with nothing in the way.
Sorry for your loss of ground. It makes me sick seeing little 10 acre hardwood groves going down and all the fence lines getting cleaned up. Knocking down trees also let's the wind blow even more. A lot if natural snow fences are wiped out every year and It probably doesnt help with erosion either.

Gotta love the farmers attitude that want put more land into production when there's already too much. Hello $3 corn..

I know a few farmers that want to get rid of all there timber cause they are sick of hunters fighting over who gets to hunt what and driving all over and just general disregard for the fact that people pay a lot of money for these farms and it is there livelihood. You have to remember that to farmers timber is worth nothing! You can also thank the government for making them put it into production before they can enroll it in a program and the fact that insurance will pay for production on it doesn't help either. I agree I hate to see it happen but I also understand that not everyone feels the same way as me and with less livestock a lot of the ground around is worthless to these guys unless its row cropped.

Gotta love on non-resident landowners who want to change our laws even though they come from a state that sucks compared to ours! :)

^^^^This.

When you own the ground, you get to make the call on whether it stays timber or is cleared to make the land worth three times more.

There will always be land to buy.

Affording it depends on how much you are willing to sacrifice.;)

Lol we will be buying farm land by that time.. haha I told the gf if we get married be prepared to live in an apartment for awhile because I'm buying land ASAP

Renting is throwing money out the window, never to be seen again.

Put a shanty on the land for a homestead tax exemption. :D

I beg to differ...... the big shot wipe the land clear of every last bush will get what he deserves , the market will take care of that all on its own. Spend $11000 an acre , wipe it clean at almost $4 diesel fuel then tile it , ya real profitable..... It makes me sick to see all this going on everywhere and I am a fourth generation farmer. I'm sick of the wind blowing 30 mph every day and I especially hate the sound of a chainsaw now days ! Pheasants are almost non existent in my area , deer numbers aren't far behind , its terrible !
