A Few Steps Ahead Of You
well, i spent friday, saturday and today taking my wife on her fist spring turkey hunting adventure. the weather was beautiful, but the turkeys would not cooperate. during the whole two days we saw 2 hens
this morning was different. we set the DB up with a group of hens. a bird finally gobbled on the other end of the field we were in. i work him and he finally appeared about 60 yards out. he took almost half an hour to make it from the first point where i saw him till he made it to our decoys, 20 yards out. he struted the whole time, with the sun in his feathers, it was breathtaking!
when Kathryn prepared to shoot, the gobbler was about 25 yards.
My dearest wife, took her first shot at a living turkey. needless to say he flew across the river unscathed......
we were broken. this was probably going to be the last day we got to hunt together. so we will hope another day becomes availible. or we will be waiting till next year.
the cool thing was that we got to experience what i wanted her to experience, a strutting bird basking in all of his glory. words cant descrobe what we experienced.
she is my favorite hunting partner and i really wanted that bird to go home with us. probably more than she did. i hope missing a gobbler doesnt ruin the whole experience for her....
thanks for listening, no need to reply, i just needed to vent a little....
