Sad news

I heard today that Willy Suchy passed away. He was the DNR's Wildlife Research Supervisor. If you enjoy the quality of the deer hunting and herd structure in Iowa he would have been the guy to thank.

He was a quiet giant. I first met him when he was the Deer Biologist. He would come to the IBA functions and field questions about deer numbers and the DNR's plan for deer hunting in Iowa. He ascended to Research Supervisor. If you wanted numbers on deer harvest trends he was the guy to ask. He was an adjunct faculty at Simpson College in Statistics. I often kidded him that I was going to drive over to take his stats course so I could better understand what he was saying.

He was a Life Member of the IBA and he will be missed.

Godspeed Willy, Godspeed.

I got to know him back in 1991. Dang he was a great person and would always greet me by name. Sad news condolences to his family.

Truly sad news. We emailed back and forth over the years, finally got to meet him. He will be missed.

I knew Willie also... heck of a guy. Took his Stats class around 2003 and it was great. He related everything to deer and wildlife. Fun class. The class was only like 6 weeks and he let me miss a week to go fishing in Canada. Very cool guy. For sure a great asset to our state.

What happened? Feel free to PM me if you want. Thanks.

I remembered seeing this thread from b4 I became a IW member. Willie was a great guy. I also took a statistics class with him in the early 2000's. Extremely knowledgeable and genuinely nice man.

I sure hope Willy is resting in peace!
There is a reason we have the deer hunting we have today, (thank you Willy for the work you done in your years as our Deer Biologist ). I sure hope we have somebody in the same position Willy was in to not only inform but to have an influence on those making today's decisions on the future of our deer herd(remember guys to send a simple email on what you think/believe in as far as some of these new items that are trying to go through right now)! We have read the different opinions of most of us on this forum and it's clear to see how some truly care and some maybe not so much (it's definitely fun to live for today but gosh darn, we gotta think about tomorrow ). Time is running out, take some time and reread some of these that Bonker has posted. (Straight wall rifle cartridges) If you are for or against please take some time to do your part! Remember this is our time to promote and protect what alot of others have worked so long and hard for to create what it is today!
Have a great day!
