I've been going through all the old tapes from the past few years and uploading some footage. I came across the tape from Nov 27th, 2009. This morning Russ and I were hunting and the season had been wearing on us. The first time the camera was turned on this morning was at first light when a small 8pt was coming out way. Russ and I determined he was one we'd like to shoot... and eat! So into action we went.. The buck was coming down a trail that brought hit about 30yds away but he was going to cross our path into the stand. Once he started getting close to our path in he got nervous, but when he hit our path in he came to a dead stop... as you'll see in this video.
I took a shot (my shot was forward) and he ducked down into it and the arrow broke off just above the broadhead. The classic shoulder shot, leaving a very much alive buck and me with nearly an entire arrow laying near the spot I shot him. We never found the buck that year and were positive he survived the hit. Fast forward to Nov 14th, 2010. Same stand nearly one year later and Russ is behind the camera again. We have a very similar 8pt coming in, nothing special in the antler department but he sure looked tasty! We went into action again but the buck dogged the arrow. For some unknown reason he was on alert this time as well. We ended up snapping a couple trail cam pictures of the buck in the late season and I found his right side shed while chainsawing... the 'crappy 8pt' lives on...
Now that you have the background to the deer (or potentially same deer) I was curious what everyone's thoughts were on this being the same buck in 2009 and 2010 or was it two different bucks we encountered? Oh, and this is a little teaser to get everyone a little less sleep the next few weeks until opening weekend.
