Save your wings!

Since CLOACA is donating a wingbone call to this years turkey contest I'm asking anyone who is able to to save their turkey wings to give to him. If you're just going to throw them away why not give them to someone who will use them, right? :way:

I will second the awesomeness. Started calling three of the gobblers killed this weekend with finbonz calls! They are sweet.

Ryan and Matt I am glad you like your calls. Just don't leave them in your back pocket!

Thanks Muddy for setting some back. Any wings would be greatly appreciated especially if they will just go to waste. So far I have donated calls to the NWTF, Pheasants Forever, and Whitetails Unlimited. I also have a set of calls that I am donating to a group from the Washington (Iowa) area that is doing turkey hunts for veterans. If anyone has a local chapter that might be interested, shoot me a PM. If I have extra bones on hand I would definitely donate to your organization. I love to help out and it is a good excuse for me to go to some great banquets!

I also will be doing two wingbones that should draw some interest later this summer. One will be an ISU themed call and the other will be an Iowa call. What I plan on is the top bidder on each call will buy that school's call for themselves. But between the Clones & Hawks, whoever has the higher bid not only will win some bragging rights but also will get an extra custom call. The money raised from both calls will be donated to Hunt Of A Lifetime.

You are a true sportsman and a gentleman!

We exchanged PM's, as I wanted to know exactly what you needed and the best way to take care of it until it can be passed on to you. I have one set of boned out turkey wings in the freezer, shopping for a second set.

Would you like to comment here on what you need and the best method of storage? Throw the whole wings in the freezer? Bone them out? Does cooking ruin them? etc.

I talked to CLOACA this past weekend and had the chance to check out some of his custom calls............WOW!! They sound as good as they look, and the fact that he's donating some of them is pretty darn cool. Takes about 30 seconds to remove them from the bird and they don't end up going to waste. :way:

If you are going to keep the wings just dislocate them from the body (at the shoulder" and cut the tendons. From that point it is up to you. They are a pain to store as a whole wing but if you have room in a freezer just throw them in a plastic sack and freeze them. Another way is to debone them from the feathers and meat leaving just the 3 wing bones. If you happen to have Borax you can sprinkle it on any meat or skin and that will help it dry out. I can either pick them up, depending on where you live, or you can send them to me through the mail. If you mail them I will reinburse you for postage. If you are planning on sending any wings I thank you ahead of time! PM me if you have any questions.

Legally harvest wings can be sent to:

If you're around IowaCity I'll collect them for Steve as well. Hoping to get ahold of Ghostie after season for the final delivery, or maybe Crutter.
