hey guys i need some help. I need to write a paper about a career that i might want to go into and i choose taxidermy(ive mounted pheasants and love it). Well resources are limited i need to know things like average earnings hours a week, education. Anyone that knows these things or is a taxidermist and has some time could ya help me out i would greatly appreciate it!!! thanks

gundog, i dont know a ton about being a taxidermist but being a bussiness man i can tell you that wage is only dependent on how hard you are willing to work and the quality of your product. other than that i would have to say the most important thing other than craftsmanship is marketing. and what a better place to market on the iowawhitetail.com i am sure it is almost 4000 members strong. the sky is the limit kid, do what you love and love what you do.

Gundog,

If you don't mind making a long distance call I suggest you contact the Pennsylvania Institute of Taxidermy, 814-472-4510, www.studytaxidermy.com, and I am sure they will provide you a ton of good information. They are an accredited institution willing to help anyone with inquiries. Good Luck.

gundog870, I helped a young man about one year ago, with his (career) paper.
There are many taxidermy classes out there, if you know where to look. Some top notch classes right here in Iowa. If you are certain this is your career, I urge you to take as many as you can. Could be costly, but so is college.
You get out of it what you put into it. There are many taxidermist that make a good living, work long hours, and do great work.
Another thing, is the Iowa Taxidermist Association. Which in fact is holding their show this weekend. This is a great group of people that can help you in the feild of taxidermy. Enter some mounts in a competition and watch how your work improves, just by learning and talking to other taxidermist. This is just a small start, but hope it helps.
