Bad part of putting a scope on many shotguns is the barrel and the receiver are not rigidly attached as they are in a centerfire rifle. Getting a mount that attaches directly to the barrel will produce better accuracy. I have an 1100 with a Hastings cantilever barrel. It's a tack driver with the new Hornady SST's
I agree that an Aimtech scope mount is less than ideal. I was just responding to the question posed. A cantilevered rifled barrel is a much more accurate way to go when looking at scoped shotguns. I am currently looking at "upgrading", since I messed with the Aimtech/slug barrel and know that a person can do better. It is all what your budget can take.
Right now, I have a muzzleloader that shoots lights out. Since it is a legal weapon during shotgun season, I'm leaving the shotgun in the safe and I am really not motivated to go the scoped cantilever rifle barrel route. If I wind up with a spare couple of hundred dollars burning a hole in my pocket, I might change my mind. Always make your first shot count and nothing else matters.
I've always wondered if a guy could drill/tap the barrel and then install a long eye relief scope like a handgun/scout scope. might have too mock that up sometime just too see.
