Scrape line hunting, need advice..

I generally hunt funnels with the wind in my advantage, and don't do that much hunting of scrape or rub lines.

I've got a big 8 point that's my target buck, caught him on trailcam in July and again finally this month on the 30th at 2 am.

After the picture he continued down the trail making some major rubs and then stopped at one of my stands and made 3 fresh scrapes.

Any advice on how to use this brand new line to my advantage..? I'm not big on commercial scents, just don't know wether to concentrate on the scrape area now or not.?

Thanks..

Jason

I have found that hunting scrape lines this time of year can be a bust! They seem to hit the scrapes more at night. With the rut closing in i would be hunting those funnels.

In my experience, Scrape lines are low percentage for big bucks during day light hours.

However, i know big bucks get killed over scrape lines, but a particular scrape is not made AND maintained by the same deer, small bucks, medium, large bucks and even does use scrapes.

essentially you will see deer on a scrape/rub line, but no garuntee as to which particular buck will use them.

I have killed deer over scrapes, but have never seen the monster while sitting over a scrape. again, that doesnt mean you cant do it.....and it surely doesnt mean a giant wont show up, work the scrape and then take an arrow. it is just hard to determine which specific bucks are using them.....

if you opt to hunt over them, freshin them regularly with scrape juice, dominant buck urine, and of course doe in estrous urine.....who knows it may produce for ya!

good luck!!

The best way to hunt scrape lines this time of year is to forget about them! Go find a good funnel or concentrate on doe feeding and bedding areas.

A scrape only tells you where a buck has been, its no indication of where a buck will be in the future!
