I started doing this a few years ago. Started by putting a scrape dripper with Active Scrape over an existing natural scrape that was used each year (it has since died out for whatever reason, but I may try to "open" it this year and put a "new" licking branch in). Also sprayed with whatever buck scent I was using when I went by on the way to the stand.
Then the next couple of years I put in a scrape line along a food plot and included a natural scrape in the line. I put them about 50 yards apart under the same type of trees I was seeing natural ones under (in this case, pin oaks). Used a garden hand cultivator to dig up the ground, made sure to have a licking branch overhanging each one which I sprayed with HS Lickin Stix, sprayed down good with Power Scrape, and put a scrape dripper with either Power Scrape or Active Scrape above out of reach of the deer. These also happened to be where they would enter the plot so hopefully they would notice them.
Usually wait until late September to early October to "open" these. And if using scrape drippers, I recommend the Magnums so you don't have to fill as often. I've haven't had a camera on any of the mock scrapes, but have seen tracks or pawing in them. Better evidence on the natural ones (to be expected tho). Never seen them using the mock scrapes in daylight when I'm there, but figure you can't help your chances if you don't try.
