Scrapes?

When do you make your first mocks rape. Have a camera over a spot that has a scrape every year. When do you think a guy should "open" it. Have video of a doe working the licking branch.

Sent from my tab 2 using IW

I would also like to know. And how you you guys do it? I usually clear a good spot but does anyone add scents? Or make multiples close together?

I've got 3 mock rubbing posts out and I raked up a mock scrape under one of them last night and just put a few sprays of tinks power scrape on the ground. Im hoping it will turn into a big scent post/rub/ scrape.
Its purely trial and error at this point in the year.
We usually start making mock scrapes at the end of September in years past with pretty good results. We use mostly tinks power scrape. This year we got ahold of some orbital gland to put on the licking branch just to try out.
I've got cams up over our mock rubs and ill update this in a few weeks when we check cameras

I've always used magnum scrape drippers, seem to work alright to get a bucks interest and check it out, but I've never had one actually take the scrape over and keep returning.

I would put some gland scent on the licking branch. Once the does start using it the bucks will take it over. No need to do anything with the ground. They will eventually work the ground. I know guys that start there's in August.

Yup, I just put the rub/scrape trees out and they do the rest. Does will mess them as soon as you put them out and the bucks will take over in late September/early October. No need for scent IMO if you are putting them in high traffic areas such as food plots.

I started doing this a few years ago. Started by putting a scrape dripper with Active Scrape over an existing natural scrape that was used each year (it has since died out for whatever reason, but I may try to "open" it this year and put a "new" licking branch in). Also sprayed with whatever buck scent I was using when I went by on the way to the stand.

Then the next couple of years I put in a scrape line along a food plot and included a natural scrape in the line. I put them about 50 yards apart under the same type of trees I was seeing natural ones under (in this case, pin oaks). Used a garden hand cultivator to dig up the ground, made sure to have a licking branch overhanging each one which I sprayed with HS Lickin Stix, sprayed down good with Power Scrape, and put a scrape dripper with either Power Scrape or Active Scrape above out of reach of the deer. These also happened to be where they would enter the plot so hopefully they would notice them.

Usually wait until late September to early October to "open" these. And if using scrape drippers, I recommend the Magnums so you don't have to fill as often. I've haven't had a camera on any of the mock scrapes, but have seen tracks or pawing in them. Better evidence on the natural ones (to be expected tho). Never seen them using the mock scrapes in daylight when I'm there, but figure you can't help your chances if you don't try.
