Seed Germination Test

Hey guys,

I have several bags of different seeds that are all atleast a year old. All have been stored in 5gallon pales with good lids. I have one bucket with a brassica mix, that Im thinking this is going to be its 4th year.

Im planning on doing some germination tests. I need to know how long to wait for germination. I've read on the net anywhere from a week, to 4 weeks

Following types of seeds will be tested: turnips, rape, clover, chicory.

You could do a "rag doll" test. Take 3-4 paper towels, wet them, ring them out, sprinkle seeds on them and roll tight. Place them in a zip lock on top of the TV (or other warm place) with a towel over the seed. the towel will help hold the heat.

I think a rule of thumb is the smaller the seed, the faster you will/should see germination. Two weeks should be plenty.
