I like having fruits for critters as much of year as possible. I never thought of this. This is in my yard. I think it’s a serviceberry. I don’t know 100% as my wife can’t even remember what tree she got there. Grew quick! They are delicious!!!! Kinda like apple + grape or plum. I have to think deer would eat these?!?!? I guess I don’t know & one thing I’ve never given thought to until now. I’m going to find out! Gonna plant some at farm. I think some folks call these June berry or Saskatoon. Going to add some to the orchard & it’s pretty astounding the TONS PER ACRE fruit & nut trees can produce.

They're great and a big hit with the wildlife.

I've had troubles with the coons breaking limbs on my farm from some that I've planted.

10/10 would recommend them!! Deer browse them heavily also.

The fall color of those trees is truly spectacular. Red, yellow or orange is the variance.

Post from 2019 on here.

"The coons were not easy on my downy serviceberry when they had ripe fruit. They snapped several limbs on this one tree. I call these plantings the shrub cocktail: Downy Serviceberry, chokeberry and hazelnuts."

Snapped serviceberry limb and hazelnuts.

Chokeberry (Aronia berry) are ripe now in the mix.

Ya, here we call those saskatoons. Deer love the twigs as browse year round but I don't think they go for the fruit much. Birds love them though. My favorite desert is saskatoon cheesecake.:) Canned, it goes great on cornflakes.
