Setting tree stands

My hunting partner and I recently set a few stands. One of the areas is dominated by huge cottonwood trees that lack cover and are pretty large in diameter. We tried to get as high as possible but had some difficulty in completing the process. I was wondering if anybody has any helpful tricks that make the job of setting a treestand on a straight tree and 25 feet easier. Hanging onto the tree and trying to set and fasten a stand can be rather challenging.

get a ladder stand instead!

Do you have a safety harness? I use the Seat of the Pants harness, with a Screaming Eagle linemans rope. It allows me to easily adjust to tree size and then work with free hands.

i use a d-ring safety belt and it also allows you to use both hands. just set a couple of tree steps level with each other and then lean back against the harness/belt. that first time you lean back though takes a little faith

Safety harness is the only way to go. You can hang on without using your hands. This way your hands are free to do what you want. Tree hopper is a very good one and it is made here in Iowa. PM me and I can get you the phone number.
