This bill gives NRs who have a R family member a tag at half the going NR tag price with all the privileges of a R on the Rs land. This was introduced last Monday. I believe this was attempted last year as well.

Another bill taking us the wrong direction - looking forward to the days when we see bills taking us back.

Serious question - how they going to define "family member" and how would one go about proving it?

In the language they do define it, it’s about anyone. Kids, step kids, spouse, etc. I’ll take a look and post who qualifies.

Here ya go: 1)“Familymember”means a person who is a parent, step parent, child, stepchild, sibling, stepsibling, grandparent, grandchild, or spouse .

Absolutely ridiculous!! If they even want to start a proposal with any honesty…. Make it a doe tag then. There’s so many reasons this is lacking common sense it’s staggering. I’ll spare the novel tonight & work on some factual bullet points later. Wish Trump could fire some of these folks that come up with this.

AWESOME AWESOME BILL!!!! This bill allows me to live and work wherever I want in this country or perhaps the whole world and make as much money as humanly possible and buy as much land as possible in the great state of Iowa and put it in my brother’s name so I’m guaranteed a tag!!! I can live wherever I want and dump millions into my beach house and the surrounding area and I only have to give the local Casey’s a few bucks when I come back to shoot some of the deer that belong to the Iowa residents !! Is that too long of a name for a bill??? I say it should be renamed to this. ;)

Obviously was being sarcastic before. Spoke with a few people in the legislature and it sounds like this bill has the same old arguments as last time. People upset that their kids move away and can’t come back and hunt the family farm every year. Typically college educated kids from landowning families that move to Minneapolis,Kansas City, Omaha and really anywhere else in the country for work. These types of people are all people that we need to encourage to stay in the state. We don’t need to make it any easier for these types of people to leave the state. Also, obviously a gateway bill that could lead to other relaxed non-resident regs.

Here’s the ironic part…. Where their kids chose to move to …. By definition, if anywhere in Midwest… the kids live in a state with more deer & habitat than here in iowa. The parents could travel to their kids & more opportunities than kids coming here.
If we really wanna “spend time hunting together” without all the problems this creates…. Make it for antlerless tags.

I personally know many families whose kids went to college and could have moved anywhere and deer hunting is literally the only thing that kept them here. Same with some retirement aged people and really anybody with relatives that own land. Makes it way easier for them to move away and contribute to the economies of other states and only come back here to deer hunt.

I can see South Dakota from my yard. There are tax benefits to moving over that border+ it's a great state overall. Deer hunting keeps me on this side of the Sioux river.

I’m sure there are a ton of people in similar situations. That’s just one area of the state too! Lots of people that could live in Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis and even the Chicago area and be in Iowa within an hour or two and easily come back here just to hunt but could definitely be in better economic situations in those places.

They have an opportunity to come to Iowa. It is called the draw system. The net loss to actual residents is far greater than taking care of some family members that chose to leave the state for greener pastures.

You want them to stay in the state,,,,well then! Just take a million acres of your states land and turn it into industrial parks so you have jobs for all these kids, not all want to be farmers yaknow! Then once you have those industrial complexes built thousand more will move to Iowa to work, and of course you'll need to get rid f more farms for more homes, more commercial shopping centers, on and on! I'd worry more about the weapons that are being introduced. you started out with bow and shotgun, 100yd shots now look at what you got. not to hard to shoot across that cut bean or corn field anymore is it. You better decide egos or conservation, which do you want. I live in a county that was shotgun only. I watched as Shotguns were introduced that can shoot 200yds with the right person behind them. Those with the egos that wanted to just walk out and kill for the "Look What I Got" big hunter I am attitude. Then they went to rifle...Lol Use to be a top county lol, now you're lucky if you see a 2 1/2 year old. Shot down to nothing! Outfitters also,,how much land have you lost where you use to be able to knock on the door and get permission to hunt for a day or as much as you wanted by giving a helping hand. The outfitters in Iowa are putting clients on "public land" heck for 5000 a head they fill up the farm leases you use to hunt and their using the free land you use to hunt to pile on more clients! I've seen it first hand where I live. Money talks! Let the kids come home and hunt. After all I think a kid that moved to New York for a career isn't as concerned about harvesting a deer. Its the people that don't have a clue about hunting and those that want to be able to shoot 3or4 hundred yards that you have to worry about. That deer across the field you use to admire but was out of range and would grow into a 4 or 5 year old,,,is now dead and the numbers of older deer will dwindle away. Just my opinion. I've seen it firsthand, only took 15 yrs in the County I'm talking about. GoodLuck.

I understand the bad part of urban sprawl but totally disagree with you. Kids can apply like every other non resident or get an antlerless tag. Believe me this bill would help me out a lot!! Lots of non resident family. I believe Iowa is one of the last great states for 3 simple reasons. Limited non-resident tags, December gun seasons and no crossbows for everyone. I will absolutely NEVER support anything that messes with those three subjects even tho it may personally benefit me and my family.

This bill sure has an open door feel to it. I ASSUME since it infers party hunting this is for gun 1&2? What would keep it from being bow tags next year. Most gun 1&2 tags can be drawn in around 2 years I think? What will keep them from asking for bow tags next for the NRLO family members. I have three NRLO outfitters around me that has ~1 RLO in the family and then several family members that are in the draw. Mostly archery but they would be drooling to see this reach bow tags and open the floodgates! I know of 10 “family members” that would meet this bill IF it includes bow tags and I’d wonder how many may switch to gun knowing they can come every year. TERRIBLE for the resource!
