shot deer

Well this afternoon at around 5 I shot a pretty nice buck. The shot looked good. He hit the ground when I shot took off ran to the woods then turned around ran back across the lane I shot him in. He then ran into a real thick tree field. The bad news is it has raining all afternoon. It was raining when I shot him at about 160 yds. As soon as I shot him I got down to find blood and found some from then I waited a good while then started to track him.

Then I ran out of blood so. He has probably ran 200 or so yds since I shot him. I'm going to leave him over night and try to grid the area in the morning.

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR ADVICE! This is probably my best deer to date. I'm pretty sure he's outside of the ears. He also looked he was 300 pounds

Where did you hit him? Did you get a pass thru or is the arrow still in him? If a pass thru, what did the arrow look like? Any pink bubbles in the blood you did find, and how much blood did you find? Broadside or quartering to/away?

Good luck on finding him.. it sucks to try and sleep when you have one hit..

If you hit him good and he ran that far then I would consider selling that ol 25-06. I'll give you $301 tomorrow :D

Not sure why you would want someone elses deer in your profile pic?

160 yards with a 25-06 isn't a stretch by any means for that gun.

Were do you think you hit him at?

Did you have it sighted in dead on at 200?

You probably hit him a bit high and back for him to run that far after getting hit by a bullet. I have seen bucks do some amazing things after being hit, but most of the time if you have a solid hit with a rifle they go right down or only a short distance after being hit.

You did the right thing by backing out for the night just in case he isn't hit that great. Make sure you are ready for a follow-up shot just in case while you are searching for him....if you can't find blood try and look for tracks in the mud if it was raining and he was running hard.

Good luck.

Thanks guys I went back this morning and found a bed and other 25 yds from that I found a 3 inch piece of leg bone. So that being sayed I think he'll make it. I hope he makes it. He was a huge bodyed deer so I hope he makes it. Maybe ill get another shot at him.

Sorry for the Archery assumption.. I would have to agree, if you hit him in the general area with a rifle at that close of range, his insides have to be messed up. I'm sure he's dead.. Good luck in your search..

If you didn't hit the general area with a rifle at that close range, maybe your younger brother can give you some shooting pointers. :)
