Shot some Dinosaurs

Visted with an old bowhunting buddy this morning. On a shelf in his garage was 6 XX75s 2216s from the early 90s.
He asked if I wanted them. Sure.
Was just looking them over 1/2 hour ago. 2 had slight bends so I screwd on 125g heads on 4, took out my bow with I haven't shot in 6 months, shot them at 24 yards and...
It felt good in a wierd kinda way flinging those old ( but great) arrows.
I think I'll screw on some 125 Muzzys and shoot a deer this season with them.

I had the xx75 2117s

I changed because I no longer need to check if it is still straight....

I still have a few myself.... My kids ask why they're so big

I haven't shot aluminum arrows for 25 years?

Howev3r, I have shot piles of deer with them.

Maybe I'm being nostalgic or just am getting old and loosing some memory but, I swear (I think) that the sound an aluminum arrow makes is different then a carbon arrow makes when going through a broadside deer?

The " thump" sound seemed more refreshing?
Any old timers here that can relate?

I too shot many a deer with aluminum arrows and I still like the "feel", but I also don't miss the constant bending, however slight, of the shafts. Even a miss into hard dirt was enough to sometimes tweak an arrow, etc.

I was so poor as a kid, if I bent an arrow, I'd try n straighten it. Lol.

Memory lane::.
Just guessing but early 80s, I just HAD to have a dozen XX75 Orange shafts.
I mowed yards, cleaned up dog chit, picked weeds, whatever it took to make the 40.00$ so I could buy them.
Finally had enuff $ and I was as proud as a young kid could be.
Hauled tail to the local archery range, climbed the steps to the shooting structure and shot all 12 at a close range, delapitated 3_ d deer target.

The target was so wore out, all my arrows blew through and stuck in the ground.
Went down to retrieve my arrows and stood in Horror! All my arrows were now bare shafts. Some asshole had tacked up a piece of hardware cloth (steel mesh) on the backside of the target. Stripped my new pride and joy arrows clean from the fletching.
I was devastated!!
