Shotgun debate

I just read some of the pro/con party hunting messages and wanted to respond. I've bowhunted for 20 years, shotgun hunted for 18 and have 1 150 class buck to my name. I and my group follow all the laws, rules of fair chase and try to set an example for the younger hunters in my group and I hope to hand a good reputation on to my son when he takes over the group after my dad, my brothers and I are gone. I would also like to think there are more groups like ours than there are slob hunters that seem to give us a bad name. We practice QDM, we shed and bow hunt to pattern deer, we use arial maps to understand the terrain and location of hunters and deer.

I'd like to think that we can agree that there are benefits to party hunting when handled properly. Yes it is a social time for many and some of my fondest memories of hunting are that of shotgun seasons. But to try and outlaw something that has so many benefits socially, economically and population wise doesn't seem like the right answer. Its an Iowa hunting tradition, my tradition.

OK, I'll quit now. I think I posted a similar message last year about this time so sorry if you've heard this before.
