Shrink tubing for chain on api stand?

The tubing on my api stand chain is cracked and needs replaced. There are lots of shrink tubing products out there but I don't know which would work best. I've thought about wrapping the chain in duct tape. I can get a replacement kit for about $9 but that’s expensive for shrink tubing. Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.

Are you talking about an API climbing stand? I ran across this a while back when I was looking for a stand.
