The Hunt Never Ends....
After Saturday's 300yard stalk followed by a poor shot, Skylar was feeling down on himself. I explained to him that it happens to everyone, and that we still had plenty of time to get him another shot. Sunday morning started out perfect; no wind, no clouds, and two big toms roosted 200yards from our blind. The birds gobbled hard all morning long, and after a few hours of coaxing, finally made their way into the field. At first, we thought they were going to skirt our setup, but they couldn’t resist and ended up coming in a string.
At 18yards, Skylar put a perfect shot on the strutter and successfully ended his 2012 youth turkey season! I think that Cody (the Ninja in Black) and I were just as excited as Skylar was! What a rush. This youth season once again proved to me that taking out another hunter is just as exciting and rewarding as if I would’ve been shooting the bird myself. It really doesn’t get any better than this; Skylar’s expression after the shot proved that!
