slacker plot screen

Is there a plot screen that will grow tall enough to walk behind by fall if planted in about 2 weeks (4ft could do the trick)? I'm not really slacking I guess...just timing on getting work done. Hinging some trees would be last resort if I can't grow an annual. Thanks!

Yes. The eqyptian Wheat can still be planted and grow tall enough. Mine is already over 6 ft tall. I planted mine early May.

Yep. EW. I have more to put in. It's been so wet I've had to pick my battles on what to plant. EW got pushed Down the list in priority. Last thing I need to plant. Same thing- when it dries in next couple weeks. Load up on N if ur able and that will speed growth. I bet on good soils with lots of N- 8-10' tall yet. I planted some in late may before that's reached 12-14' tall. 8-10' should be no issue now.

I just plant mine in about 15 foot strips over what has been a clover plot for last 3-5 years. I add no nitrogen and have no problem getting 12-15' tall.

that's ideal, the clover fixes the N. That should supply plenty. EW & others are very much like corn - N eaters. Good soils you can get away with more of course or if you have plants that fix a lot of N like clover, etc.

That's a darn good way to do it, clever. ^^ In fact, I may steal that method from you! :D

So let's say that I mow and then kill(gly) some strips of grass yet later this summer or early fall. Then frost seed clover in the winter...would the clover have enough growing time next spring to fix enough N before say a mid-June planting of EW or milo?

OR would you need to have a seasons worth of clover growth to get enough N in the soil to do it this way? You could also no till this way to help down weeds, I like it.

I would probably add some nitrogen for that Daver. But if you just did a 15 foot strip it wouldn't take more than half a bag of Urea. My clover was getting weak so I put brassicas in it to take out the nitrogen plus the screen and saved me on buying Urea.
