Well if anyone woke up to go hunting Saturday morning they knew how hard the wind was blowing! At 4:30am i went out side the check the weather. I walked back into the bunkhouse and the guys asked ( well how is it?) I told them we need to sleep in to bag our birds today. So that's what we did. We got up around 8:30am and ate some brakefast and talked about what we were going to do. My buddy Jason decided he was going to a piece of privet land that has been loaded with birds. And there is a great spot to get out of the wind. I decided that dad and i would hit some public land i was wanting to try. My dad wasn't to pumped about walking 1 mile back into the timber to hunt but i knew there were birds there. We set up in a valley at 10:00am. At 10:30 i got a call from Jason and he had bagged a great tom and was pretty pumped! This gave us some encouragement. 2 hrs later and no bird yet. My dad was board and wanted to move. So we moved to a spot that i really liked. We were set up and started calling at 12:15pm. I tried the box call, no response. I pulled out a new slate that i had just bought, no response. So i pulled out my favorite slate and did some aggressive cutting and my dad said did you hear that. No, so i did some more aggressive cutting and a bird fired off. I worked this bird for about 2 min and he cut me off every time. This is when my dad said you better get ready i think he's coming. I looked out the back of the blind and there he was. He came right in the the decoy. 12:30pm A 10 yard shot and a dead bird.
