Smoke pole question

How many of you have any experience with a Knight 2000, looking into getting a ML shotgun for turkeys and need some advice.

I've shot several with mine. Great gun, very reliable, perhaps a bit less range than a traditional shotgun, although I killed one last spring at plus of 40 yards with it.

Mine has a #11 cap as it's ignition source. Therefore, only loose powder can be used. I understand there is a conversion kit available to allow pellets and 209 primers, but I've not done that. Mine shoots best patterns with #5 Red Hot shot. 4's and 6's are not as good, although acceptable at less than 30 yards.

Hold 'er tight, 'cause with 100 grains of Pyrodex she throws flames a foot or more out the end of the barrel and really packs a punch

My next major goal with the gun is to shoot a pheasant with it while being videotaped. I think it'd be a scream

oldgene,

The Knight TK 2000 is a great ML shotgun. I have harvested a number of gobblers with mine.

As already stated, they don't have the range of a modern shotgun, but with the right load 35-40 yard shots are easliy within the capabilities of the TK2000.

With the right load a little more distance can be obtained. Don't be afraid to shoot a 150 grains of powder thru it either. I would also suggest getting some Hevi-shot for it.

A buddy of mine has one and I've shot it some. As with most shotguns, you need to try different loads to see what patterns best. I'd have to double check with him, but I think he found it patterned best with 90 grains of loose powder behind an ounce and a quarter of six shot.

As mentioned above, be ready because they do kick although maybe Ron's thumbhole stock helps that some?

IMO the Knight Thumbhole stock and the ported muzzle significantly reduces felt recoil.

i killed a one with a TK2000 last year. it patterns great, i pack 120 g's of powder and a little over 2 oz of shot. its a kicking machine but it mashes beaks

I have one that I won at our NWTF banquet several years ago and have killed at least 1 turkey with it a year. I use 3 1/2" 12g shot cups filled with copper plated #5s and 120 grains of either Pyrodex or 777 and it is devestating. I have no idea how you could use pellets in that big of a bore. My only real problem or complaint is getting the barrel really clean, because 12 gauge brushs and swabs don't fit tight enough to get it all. The ramrod and patch with hot soapy water isn't too bad but still is too loose. I now use a 10 gauge brush and at least double patches after I remove the choke tube and this seems to work better. Try one and I'll bet you like it. There is just something about having to run to the side of the smoke cloud to see if you have a turkey or not, especially on a cool damp morning.
