Snuffer SS

Anybody use these heads with regularity? I bought a 3 pack to play around with for a goof but just haven't made it out yet to test. I like the COC philosophy, one piece resharpenable design is good, lifetime warranty goes in the plus column. Only negative I've found so far is the factory sharpening job was half rate at best and I struggled hard to get them to hair cutting sharpness after much effort. I guess I'm looking for any hands on reviews from anyone who's tried them.

Great heads. Extremely tough, fly well & big blood trails. You hit on the only downside, difficult to sharpen. There is a jig that mounts two flat files at the correct sharpening angle and a similar stropping jig. I think you use jewler's rouge on the strop.

The Results...

Well, I decided to give them a try myself and I now have a new broadhead in my quiver for the 2009/2010 season. I've been using Slick Tricks the past few years due to their propensity to fly like a field point but I actually found the Snuffers flew even more like field tips through my particular bow, the Tricks were off just slightly but would have required only a very small pin adjustment at all distances. Repeatability of the point of impact was excellent with both brands using multiple heads of each.

Penetration is a big factor to me and the COC design of the Snuffer paid off as expected with the head protruding out of the back side of a broadhead target at 40 yds! Granted, this was a cheapo Wal-Mart target but still, quite impressive and something the Tricks could not emulate. So in short...same flight as field points, much better penetration, resharpenable on a flat stone, and lifeteme guarantee. Win,win, win and win. Now if only I can get the shot I'm looking for. ;)

Setup specs:
-'08 Bowtech 82nd Airborne
-68# @28"
-Easton Axis ST 340 arrows w/ 2" Blazers 2 degree offset and 100 gr tips
-Limb Driver rest

I too love the Snuffer SS's. I've had luck sharpening them with G5 sharpener's. One is flat with a leather strop on the back, and the other I think is called a stick sharpener. Both have worked great for me.

Another update...

Thanks for the article Ironwood. Sounds like they had about the same results as myself. I've been slightly concerned about the sharpness factor of these heads and while in Scheels the other day, I noticed that the newest Snuffers were a different color...almost black (Note: I bought mine last year and just had them setting around since). It made me wonder if they changed some of the properties of construction so I decided to buy another pack. These heads were razor sharp right out of the package. This is a really good sign and makes me move forward with even more confidence than before. Can't wait to give them a try in the field.
