Some White Tips for Me

I really had to talk myself into going hunting mid morning today. The wind is out of the north at around 25 to 30 mph and I really don't like hunting in that stuff. About 10:00 am, I left the house and after sitting in the blind for over an hour not being able to hear anything, I decided to call it a bust and check out the other side of the shelterbelt on my way out. That plan worked quite well as I spotted a nice bunch of birds and was able to put the sneak on them and take this nice Merriam.:way:

10.75 beard
1 inch hooks

Although I could get another tag, I'm calling it quits after this one. Two birds is enough for this spring.

Beautiful bird Jay!! If you ever want to hunt an ugly old Eastern I would swap a hunt with ya' sometime! :way:

Congrats! Makes birds in my area look pretty plain. What kind of range do you get with that smoke pole?

I don't think I'd want to push a shot further than 25 yds. My pattern at 20 is a real nice circle about twenty inches in diameter. The gun is a 20 gauge and I shoot 70 grains of FFF Goex pushing 1 1/4 oz. of number 4's. That may not sound like a good pattern but bear in mind, that's from a cylinder bore. I can get much tighter groups using shot cups but don't see the need to have plastic residue left in the barrel and they aren't very traditional. If I can't get within 20 yds of a bird, there's always the next hunt. :way:
Todays bird was shot at about 10 yds.

Nice bird Jay!! I'm gonna be looking for one of those out your way starting Friday morning..... can't wait.:way:
