All,
Please look into this immediately. I know a lot of us are deer hunters but a lot of us also hunt other game and visit other states as well. This bill will increase the distance shooting from buildings and livestock for small game such as pheasants from 220 yards to 440 yards in a public-right-of-way. It goes to the senate floor tomorrow. Please send a quick email to the below.
The bill should be up for final passage on the Senate floor tomorrow afternoon. Please oppose this bill.
Your message does not need to be long, just use "Please Oppose HB 1236" in the title, and list a few points on why.
Below is a list of possible topics, and please add personal testimony on how this will affect you.
-Expanding the existing safety zone is NOT needed.
-Passage of this bill further restricts the public's access to the public road right of way.
-If passed, this new restriction would result in the loss of thousands of acres of what is now publicly accessible land across the state.
-The current law of 660 feet has been in place for years and it works well for both landowners and hunters.
-Don't penalize the thousands of hunters and trappers that are abiding by the current law of 660 feet because of the bad acts of a few individuals.
-If you want to increase the penalty on the people that violate the 660-foot safety zone that needs to be done in another bill.
-Keep the "public" in the public right of way.
