soybeans for fall?

Anyone ever try to plant soybeans around late august for an early season attraction plot? If so, how did it work out? If this drought carries on into fall, I thought about doing this with some leftover seed that was given to me instead of planting my perennial and having a failure due to lack of moisture. It wouldnt bother me as much if the beans failed. I know it wouldnt be enough time to produce beans, but it should provide some browse. What do you all think?

I am giving up plans for food plots. Ground so hard could not disk it up anyway. This drought is a big one. Will not end soon. Will be interesting hunting I think. No crops,,no food plots.

I totally agree with you. I just hate to completely throw in the towel. Hopefully this will turn around soon but im not holding my breath.

I think this would b excellent for oct til it gets really cold (maybe nov?). If u wanted a shot at an oct hunt- this would b excellent. Personally, I'd plant it around early to mid August. Won't hurt a little earlier, they'll b a little bigger/more food & plenty tender. If u planted too late u may end up with too little forage- could end up being 3" beans that r wiped out instantly. I'd do a littler "earlier" on the late planted beans vs later. My 2 cents.

I am pretty sure that a few big ones will be shot regardless of no food

Plots or not. This drought will end at some time. If you get a rain with nothing

planted you wil miss out. Just my .02.

Luckily the ground is still somewhat soft. I ran the rototiller through it in late spring and it seems to be holding up well.

I will be planting fall plots in the coming weeks...rain or no rain. If I have to broadcast and they wait on a rain...that is fine by me.

Rains could start coming next week....maybe not till September (or later). Spending money for plots is a hobby so it is all spent for enjoyment as opposed to make money for me. If I plant and they do not make, well that gives me more reason to go play at the farm in say September/early October to over seed with winter rye :D

If the drought breaks and your neighbor decided to plant a plot...you will probably wish you had one as well :D
