Sportsmans Warehouse has opened....

Stopped thru Ankeny on the way to bow hunt last weekend...seems the new Sportsmans Warehouse opened Wednesday. Right across from Karl Chevrolet. Mostly low end to average quality items, but a good selection. Good prices on reloading supplies. Been to a few of these in other parts of the country, nice to have one close by. The Des Moines area has been lacking a good hunting store for a long time. Can't wait till Scheels opens this next year....they seem to carry more of the upper end quality products...kinda like the old Dennis P. Roberts store.

I know what you mean Rembrandt. I also stopped by there the other day. And you are right we desperatly needed this. I think it's great.

They have got a massive fishing and ammo selection. They have about every shot size and brand you'd like for shotgun hunting........even ran across something i never even knew existed in my short 15 years of life........a couple cases of 12 gauge 3" LEAD BB's pushing 1 7/8oz. shot........sure put quite the bruse on the sholder outta the Citori or even the Gold for that matter.

Also picked up some Federal Rifle slugs (new package) that were like $3.00 a box and ive seen them like $4.50 in some other places.......ALSO for the .17HMR people out there, they carry Hornady, Rem. and even the NEW FEDERAL hollow point Speer TNT....basically like the CCI but a different brand and different guns like different brands......all these ammos were like $8.99 a box and ive seen this pushing $13 a box at gun shows.....too much for the massive plinking i do.

Ok enough talking for me i need to head off to basketball practice.

Yes I like the store too. Their arrow supply seems pretty slim, but I plan to stay with my regular archery shop anyway. They have a pretty good smoker and sausage section, but they could use some HI-Mountain Sausage kits.

I welcome them with open wallet.

im gonna have to do some sucking up to my mom!!!!!

i work at the new store and am working on them to get a bigger archery section. i will give the manager a list of the items you mentioned and any others anyone else has.

They need to go a long way to surpass local archery shops! It will be great to have that huge sellection of other items they offer in the local area. I also notice they seem to focus on lower end items.

yeah, the archery section was pretty weak. need some muzzys. VERY impresed with the pistol selection. tons of different ammo. gonna go back after deer season....when i have some more cash

Like everyone else I wasn't to impressed with the archery selection. However this was a much needed store for this area. It sure the heck beats driving to cabela's. What is this I hear about scheel's coming to the area?

cosidering the closest thing we have to a sporting goods store is wal-mart, the sportsman's warehouse is MUCH needed.

scheel's is to be part of the new jordan creek mall in west des moines, i believe they are looking at august to open
