spraying new clover

So when is it "safe" to spray new clover? I worked my plots, had told my bro in law to spray (of course not) so I am worried about weeds...any ideas? I tried to read through the other very informative post, but never found it and figured I will be lazy and just ask...

First year clover usually doesn't look great. I just mow mine. If you keep it mowed clover will usually shade out everything else except grasses.

Mowing works well for broadleafs.... not so much for grass. Spray with clethodim for grass if it is a concern. Don't forget crop oil and I hear AMS helps too, although I never have added it and it works fine. It has no affect on clover so spray anytime.

What specifically are you trying to get rid of in the clover? As mentioned, certain weeds are controlled fairly well by mowing, some need to be sprayed. As far as when it is safe to spray new clover...If you are using herbicides designed for use in clover plots it shouldn't hurt it any time.
