Spring bucks checking licking branch

I frequently make artificial scrapes and licking branches in areas where I can monitor them from my tree stands. One of the scrapes I made last fall also happens to be about 20 yards from one of my spring, turkey, ground blinds. Yesterday, as I was turkey hunting from that blind three deer came by. All three were bucks. They had from one to two inches of antler developement and appeared to be a mixed bachelor group varying from 1-3+ years old. All three, in turn, stood in the scrape and worked the licking branch. None pawed the scrape. For a number of years I've noticed foot prints year round in some scrapes. This is the first time I've seen bucks working the licking branch this time of the year.

cool observation!

I wonder if deer mark the branches year round.

Maby you could mount a camera to check this out.
