Stand on public ground?

If I have a stand set up on public ground and get there and someone else is sitting in it do I have the legal right to ask them to get down. Just a question that came to my mind. I personaly would never sit in anyone elses stand.

I would say yes it is yours. This happened to me 2 years ago and the guy didn't know what to do. Just tell them you are moving the stand. They know it isn't theirs so they should get down and be real embarassed.

I thought stands couldn't be put up on public land for more than 24 hrs.

I may be wrong but you may want to check to regs and make sure you're not going to get a fine.

Stands can't be left overnight on federal ground.

They can be left up the entire season on state ground.

If you put your stand up on public property and leave it there, that person in your stand is entitled to sit in it as long as he/she wants to. Nothing you can do about it! No screw in steps either!

Thanks for the responses, I was wondering I stumbled across some ground that I was pheasant hunting on and it looked like deer heaven the only thing is it is on public ground which I usually don't deer hunt on public ground. It doesn't make sense to me that if it is your stand you can't ask them to get down. (ie. if I was going in to take it down or move it I have to wait for them to get done hunting out of my stand to take it down?)

If they told you to wait untill they're done hunting just say ok and sit at the base of the tree. maybe twittle your thumbs and whistle a few catchy tunes.

I would tell the guy to get out of your stand, because you are moving it. He should know better to sit in someone else's stand anyway! If you leave your stand up on public ground, it will eventually get stolen. Buy a Chippewa or a Lone Wolf stand. That you can take
home with you.

I've been thinking about a lone wolf what would a guy have invested in one by the time he bought the stand and a couple of those easy hanger deals. Also what do you do for steps then, do you leave the steps on the tree or take them down each time.

Anyone know what the weight cap is on the LW steps they look handy. I'm 6'5 and pushing 280 and yes it is all paid for.

At 6'5" 280 lbs, I bet most guys will get out of your stand in a big hurry when you ask.

BB - I'm not sure what the wgt. limit is on the sticks. I would think it would be the same as the stand, which I believe is 350 lbs??? I'd just give LW a call and ask 'em. If it works out I'll bet you're gonna luv them

You'll be real close to $350 (counting 4 LW climbing sticks), give or take a few $$. Here's another link I'd sure take a look at Chippewa Treestands
I have both the LW hang-on and several Chippewa models (Wedge-Loc & Chief). The Wedge-Loc has a 400 lb/wgt limit and the Chief a 220 lb/wgt limit. I know a couple of guys your size on another board, they went with a Chippewa and are extremely pleased. Not that I'm trying to steer you away from the LW, as either would be an excellent stand.

I'm not sure what the current prices are with the Chippewa stands, as I've had mine several years. I think they're just a bit more than the LW.

If you feel the spot you've found on public hunting is good enough, you could consider buying a 'lesser stand' for that location. Use your LW sticks to put it up, then take them down when you leave. I've done that several times without a problem...just a idea.

Good Luck

I've thought of that two beards, I have a couple of cheap stands that actually comfortable to sit in but a bear to set up. I think I'll probably try a LW just to try them, everyone that I know of is very pleased with the stands.
