Do you have a certain tree stand location that consistently puts you in close range of mature bucks each year?
What makes that particular location so productive?
What are the things that you key in on when picking a stand location?
The Lone Wolf is great for quick set-ups in areas that you just have to check out. However, certain hot spots may call for a more permanent set-up.
The Cedar Tree Stand
This is one of my favorite morning stands. It is located in the center of a tall ridge facing a valley and creek bottom below to the South. It is about 80 yards from an inside corner of a CRP field to the North which creates a natural funnel. The rising morning air from the valley has me covered for any deer approaching from the South. With a Northwest wind I am covered from the North but it also goes high above the noses of any deer to the South. The crop fields are to the West with a 40 acre bedding area to the East of the stand. The long distance from the crop fields allows me to enter this stand with no detection prior to the deer returning to the bedding area. I'm not even going to start and count how many bucks have been taken from this tree.
