Stand Placement?

Have any of you ever hung a stand more so on a hunch, that a big buck may show based on previous years sightings?and with good results?I've been considering hanging a stand in an area, just for the reason of seeing two different big bucks chasing does, two consecutive years in a row through the same spot. The only problem is,I know the first buck was taken in gun season, and I'm not certain the other buck is still around.I know this area usually holds atleast a couple big bucks every year,so I'm going on a hunch another big buck may do the same.I never considered hanging a stand here until I witnessed these two bucks there. The area is a thick funnel that goes right down the center of a wide open claypit they strip for a brickyard.Other than the funnel it's wide open all around, mostly shale which was left after stripping.I'd only hunt this spot during the rut,and know most hunts will be rather boring ,being it's so open, but I keep thinking I'll see another whopper buck there. These bucks obvisously jumed does in the thick strip of woods and chased them right down this funnel which narrows, and ends up right in the middle of this stripped area.So if I should decide to hang a stand here,I would basically be watching the funnels end with wide open ground all around.I did manage to take a big buck hunting the woods edge around this open area one year, but for the time I've put in around the edge over a few years,no other big bucks, but I knew they were around.Knowing that another big buck or two is in this area, would you hang a stand there to hunt the rut just on what I've told you?I like the idea other than the fact it's so wide open.

GO FOR IT. A GOOD SPOT IS GOOD FROM YEAR TO YEAR AS LONG AS EVERYTHING AROUND IT STAYS THE SAME. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A NICE FUNNEL.

When I pack in every time with a climber....I go based on a hunch, previos sightings and current buck sign. I have taken a couple mature animals based on those three things alone.....you just get into an area and think..."if I were a big buck, would I use this area?" if not...move along

You never know PA. If you've seen big bucks there before they should be there now. Even if there isn't a lot of total cover, you never know what a grunt or some rattling may do in the heat of the rut. Might bring em right to you. Good luck.
